Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs)
These institutions of higher education are distinguished by being controlled and operated by American Indian tribes. The first was founded by the Navajo Nation in 1968 in Arizona. Presently, there are thirty-two fully accredited Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) in the United States. TCUs maintain, preserve, and restore Native languages and cultural traditions; offer a high quality college education; provide career and technical education, job training, and other career building programs.
